The Gables is a recently renovated, romantic restaurant and century-old inn that truly brings you back to a time when pirate ships sailed the seas and wives awaited the return of their sailor husbands on a widow’s peak. If you’re looking for something a little different on LBI – whether it be Sunday brunch on the porch, afternoon tea, or a candlelit dinner – The Gables certainly does not disappoint. Their dinner menu boasts á la carte options and a prix fixe tasting menu. A visit to The Gables is certainly one that you won’t forget!

This is the perfect restaurant for celebrating a special occasion or for going out with your favorite someone. The Gables is tucked away on a sidestreet in Beach Haven so if you’re unaware of its existence or if you happen to walk past the grandeur of the fronch porch complete with wicker, linens, candles and flowers you will be missing a great dining experience. The inside is just as gracious with a nice sized entrance foyer, sprawling staircase and gilded mirrors. Keep in mind this was a house so your dining areas are on the smaller side. Although I can tell you that I have never felt crowded or offended by noise. I come here with my husband and sometimes with our family. We particularly love the red room with the fireplace, and the butternut squash soup is by far the best I’ve ever tasted. You pay for what you get – so be prepared for the check at the end of the meal because prices tend to fall on the higher side. You’ll be glad this is a byo.
On a sidenote, the Gables had a pre-fix Halloween dinner this year. The place was decorated to the nines – complete with suited skeleton on the baby grand. The staff and all the patrons were costumed which made the experience all the more fun. It was the perfect adult dinner for two kids at heart.

fabulous food- had the chef’s tasting menu… ate in the garden- just beautiful for celebrating an anniversary dinner
    however,
-as we were seated, the hostess made no attempt to brush off the plates/table of the leaves and petals that romantically drifted down
-the cane seat had a huge hole in it- no one attempted to remove it (other than dh)
-the beverage selections were confusing: although it was byob, there was a wine list(?)
-we’re not big wine drinkers and weren’t interested in a whole bottle… nothing was offered by the glass, nor was anything else offered as a beverage (soft drinks, tea, etc)
-server was (i hope) very new at serving and was clearly nervous… an exhausting way to experience a leisurely dinner

I really like this place. It’s expensive but the food is excellent. Try to get a table on the porch if possible, and dinner is better than brunch!
