I have been to two restaurants that claim the sweet life (Dolce Vita). One was in Piazza Navona in Rome. The other is down the block from what used to be the Terrace Tavern (RIP Rum Runner). And while the LBI version of the sweet life doesn’t have an Italian man standing out front singing “Take Me Home Country Road” in broken english to tourists, it is the better restaurant in this foodies opinion.
The staff at Roberto’s is one of the island’s friendliest. These people embody the sweet life. Happy, laid back and most of all, knowledgeable about their menu. I always feel comfortable here and never rushed…even on the busiest of summer nights, a sign that they care more about your experience than your bill.
The food at Roberto’s is top notch. Every time I go there I fall in love with something new. Most recently it was their Mozzarella en Carozza. Don’t confuse this with it’s American second cousin twice removed — the mozzarella stick. This is something much more special. It is such a powerful experience that, every time I have one, I feel like I should say a novina.
For main courses, try everything…I practically have. One that keeps bringing me back? The Veal Dolce Vita…a marriage of veal, eggplant, mozzarella and prosciutto thinly sliced and cooked to perfection. Remember foodie rule number 1…any time a restaurant is willing to stake their name on a meal, it is worth ordering. Throw in the fact that Roberto’s is BYOB and you have a great value on top of great food.
