What goes well with pineapples while sitting in a wicker chair? Everything!…”

If Tommy Bahama decided to move to LBI and set up shop in Harvey Cedars, Plantation would be his vision. With it’s open shudders, long green palms and South Seas feel, it evokes a sense of being whisked away from New Jersey. It is like being taken to a warm, charming land of wicker and pineapples. What goes well with pineapples while sitting in a wicker chair? Rum drinks. Let’s start there.
As serious foodies, we are also serious about a good cocktail. A real cocktail. Plantation takes the specialty drinks very seriously. They make a classic Dark n’ Stormy using the coveted Barrit’s Ginger Beer. We love our Dark n’ Stormies and it is very hard for us to find Barrit’s anywhere. They also make one of the best mojito’s on the island. We’d also suggest the Sweet Tea and the Summer Breeze. They are instant “mood enhancers.”
This is a place to bring a date for a special occasion, Mom for Mother’s Day, or whomever for whenever day. It feels sophisticated and elegant yet relaxed. Try and sit near the fireplace if you can anytime of year, it will make the experience even “warmer.” Yeah, we said it. Now… onto the food!
After your first cocktail, start with some coconut shrimp. Coconuts, shrimps, South Seas… it’s a no-brainer. Go for the clam chowder if you like it rich. It placed well in Chowderfest ’04. We are a very serious chowder island. All those tasters can’t be wrong. Speaking of mollusks, the scallops here are winners as well. The seafood in general is a hit. Try the pan seared ahi tuna drizzled in a wasabi aoli, or the wasabi crusted seabass. We like wasabi. A must for all non-meat eaters. Both are high on the foodies hit list.
For the carnivore’s… the pine-apple braised short ribs will go delightfully well with your pineapply Summer Breeze cocktail. If you are a serious meat-a-tarian, go straight for the center cut filet mignon. In a spiced merlot reduction with Gorgonzola butter… it is not your average filet.
Remember, while sitting on your woven wicker transport device, you’re in the South Seas. So order the key lime pie. Tommy Bahama sure would.
Hey… is that Jimmy Buffett?
