Many live by the mantra of “work hard and play hard” and I can’t help but agree. This weekend when you are kicking off your summers here in the LBI region, hopefully most of you will be enjoying the latter.

Of course, not everyone can play hard this weekend. The reason most of us can enjoy LBI during times like this is because of the local businesses down here. They are working their tails off, some around the clock, to make sure we have a great time.

Yet even during these busiest of times, these people still find a way to give back to the community. It makes me proud to know that a tough economy doesn’t stop people from wanting to help each other. I would like to highlight some examples for you here. Some are even holding events this weekend. If you are around, stop by an event or two and support a good cause!

Save Our Shack

Every time we come over the Causeway, the Shack has welcomed us to LBI. For generations it has been a part of the island’s history. Over the years it has been slowly deteriorating to the point where it is now in ruin. Save Our Shack is dedicated to preserving the Shack. If you are interested in supporting the cause, you can learn more here: saveourshack.org.
